I owned SHP9500 and has been running it with flat EQ for a while and when I got my AKG K361 my SHP were almost completely sidelined. Knowing that SHP9600 is just some retuned version of SHP9500 I won't be surprised if you're disappointed., I have had both the 9500 and 9600 and like them both for what they do. The 9500 is more neutral compared to the 9600, thats why most say its the best starter for gaming. The 9600 is more warm compared to the 9500 (which I enjoy) both are great for music and games and I also had the X2HR. I found them to be heavy for long wares and very V shaped ..., The X2HR definitely has more bass and is better for music out of the box, but I found that I can increase the bass of the 9600 to a more enjoyable level for music with an amp with a bass knob.
