Crinoid stalks

One group, the comatulid crinoids, have lost their stalks and live swimming freely in the oceans. They are the most common of the modern crinoids. The Sea Lilies represent about 12% of the Crinoidea and live their lives permanently attached to the substrate with – in some cases – cirri arising from their stalks, rather like strange leaves.
